Pennsylvania Ave

Before…

After…

The edge of this Caltrain property on Pennsylvania north of 23rd was a weedy fennel patch full of discarded appliances and other trash and debris. In 2016, with the help of the Golden State Warriors and PG&E, the GBD created an 8’ decomposed granite pedestrian path lined by a drought tolerant garden. A partnership project with Friends of the Urban Forest in 2017 added 10 new olive trees to the garden.

The garden, which is irrigated only in the driest few months each year, has really thrived. The camping and dumping that plagued the area has completely ceased. Neighbors, train commuters, and volunteers from the nearby Food Bank enjoy a safe path of travel down this stretch of Pennsylvania.
