25TH STREET GREENING

Before…

After…

This block-long pedestrian path and garden along 25th Street between Indiana and Minnesota Streets softens and beautifies the busy roadway - a junction of industrial warehouses, the large Minnesota Street Project headquarters, nearby residential buildings and a freeway onramp.

The blighted area was reclaimed in 2012 by neighbors with the help of Supervisor Cohen.  That project provided a pedestrian footpath, landscaping and irrigation lines.  The GBD has made gradual improvements to the site, widening and resurfacing the pedestrian path, and replacing the garden’s retaining boards. The GBD also helped advocate for repaving of the roadway and is working with Public Works and the SFMTA on intersection and pedestrian path improvements in the area.

The GBD currently maintains this area on a weekly basis, both gardening and trash pickup.
